System Junk: This will simply clear caches and logs, document versions and if you use Xcode, it’ll delete old builds. it comes with a few goodies like Space Lens, Uninstaller, app Updater etc. So what does CleanMyMac do? Apart from standard UNIX maintenance like cleaning caches and logs, cookies, purging RAM etc.

Keep in mind that almost everything that CleanMyMac does can be accomplished with either free and paid tools (like OnyX, DaisyDisk, etc.) or directly using Terminal.
I always deactivate the menu bar icon and real-time protection, as I don’t want any agent running in the background. It also replaces several apps, acting as a one-stop shop. You don’t need it, but it does make it easier to run several UNIX scripts to clean up macOS. Most Apple techs will tell you that CleanMyMac is not really necessary, and they’re quite correct.

I’m just a simple user who has been using Macs for over 15 years and know my way around.įor the most part, macOS is a very stable UNIX-based system that takes good care of itself and knows how to handle RAM and unused resources. Now, first of all this is not a paid promotion of any sort and I’m not in any way affiliated with MacPaw. The problem is that all these apps look kind of the same and have similar names. Advanced Mac Cleaner is also a very questionable product. MacKeeper is in fact a PUP (Potentially Unwanted App) that acts in a very scammy way, with very aggressive promotions and scare tactics.

CleanMyMac X is from MacPaw, a respectable Mac software company that has been around for many years, and are the active developers of The Unarchiver, Gemini and the subscription-based store SetApp (which is actually very popular).ĬleanMyMac X is not MacKeeper.
I just wanted to post a quick PSA regarding CleanMyMac X and why lots of people are either against it or support it.
